Third District General Information and Overview


The Third Masonic District of The Grand Lodge of Georgia represents 19 Masonic Lodges in Ben Hill, Clay, Crisp, Dooly, Lee, Macon, Marion, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Taylor, Terrell, Turner, Webster, and Wilcox counties. The District serves as a regional layer of support for our member lodges.

The Third Masonic District Annual Communication is conducted by the Third District Officers for the purpose of uniting the Blue Lodges of the Third Masonic District. It is generally hosted by the Lodge which the District Master is a member. Other organizational and planning meetings for the officers and representatives are held throughout the year.

Below are listed many of the duties and responsibilities of the Third District. Georgia Masonic Code section 61-1 further details the purpose and operation of Masonic Districts.

Recognize the Third District "Mason of the Year"

Recognition of the Third Masonic District "Mason of the Year" is promoted by the District Convention but those recognized are done so only through the application of the Blue Lodges in the District. No application means no recognition.

Our 2008 Mason of the Year is Tommy Kimbrel.

Recognize the Third District "Lodge of the Year"

Recognition of the Third Masonic District "Lodge of the Year" is promoted by the District Convention but those recognized are done so only through the application of the Blue Lodges in the District. No application means no recognition.

Our 2008 Lodge of the Year is Marion Lodge No. 14, meeting in Tazwell, Georgia.

Provide a Masonic Home Trustee

The Masonic Home Trustee is elected by the members of the Third Masonic District at an annual Communication for a 3 year period of service. He is then approved by the Grand Master and the Masonic Home's Board of Trustees.

Jimmy Lee is the Third District Masonic Home Trustee.

Provide a Third District Endowment Fund Committee and Chairman

The Third Masonic District Endowment Fund Chairman is appointed by the Grand Master. He operates under the control of the Grand Lodge Endowment Fund Committee Chairman.

Wallace Mays is the Third District Endowment Fund Committee Chairman.

Provide a Board of Relief Member

The Board of Relief Member is appointed by the Grand Master. The Third Masonic District confirms the appointment for a period of 3 years at the proper time during an Annual District Communication.

Tommy Kimbrel is the Third District Board of Relief Member.

Provide a Trial Commission Staff

The Trial Commissioners are recommended by the Chairman of the District's Trial Commission Committee. They are elected for a period of 3 years at the proper time during an Annual District Communication.

Ronald Reed is the Chairman of the Third District Trial Commission.

Masonic Ritual Proficiency Programs

The Custodian of the Uniform Work is appointed by the Grand Master for a six year term, and is responsible for maintaining a high standard of proficiency in the Uniform Work throughout the district. The Custodian may appoint an Assistant Custodian to assist in his duties.

Joe Barfield is the Third District Custodian of the Uniform Work.
